Page 1 of 2 2007 has nearly come to a close, but before it does, it's time to recap the year's top games. After days of blood, sweat and tears, Game-Spectrum has finally compiled a list of the best games of 2007. Included in this list is our choice for 2007's Game of the Year award. Game of the Year

In a genius move, EA has brought back every PC gamer's favorite, Half-Life, delivering it to an even broader audience. Packed with five games, The Orange Box completes any videogame enthusiast's collection and is a must-have this year. Although a few years old, the Half-Life canon remains a pinnacle of development efforts, and combined with the artful Team Fortress 2 and enigmatic Portal, players on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are finally able discover what all the fuss was about.
In a year full of first-person shooters, Infinity Ward's re-imaging of the Call of Duty franchise
puts players into a more contemporary setting of war with really big
guns at your disposal. By achieving a perfect implementation of
vehicular-based missions, intuitive gameplay and a purely action-packed
storyline, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a benchmark for
the genre. Complete with 16 game types on the multiplayer side of
things, there is no doubt this should be on your list.
BioWare has previously brought gamers to a galaxy far, far away and into the realm of Japanese mysticism on the Xbox. Mass Effect marks
the company's first efforts for the current-gen, returning with an
intergalactic theme. The developer has ditched any real-time or
turned-based traditional RPG elements, and has opted for a 3rd-person
shooter approach. The game synthesizes action, exploration and story to
present the first chapter in BioWare's trilogy. After playing through
the game, the only question to ask will be "when can I play the next one?"
Stemming from the amazing Total Annihilation
from Cavedog Studios back in the day, original creator Chris Taylor
returned with it's predecessor nearly ten years later. A new system of
controls, from the way units are ordered to attack, strategic zoom and
using dual monitors during play. It clearly has its flaws, but SupCom
is exciting and entertaining enough to drain days from the week and
force you to set timers on your computer for eating and sleeping times.
Codemasters' DiRT is an exceptional racing game
and easily one of the best-looking racers on the Xbox 360 and
PlayStation 3 systems. Complementing the game's pretty visuals are its
fantastic gameplay mechanics and immense single player depth, along
with a nice side of multiplayer action.
The first skating game to really battle Tony
Hawk for supremacy. It's innovative controls are extremely simple and
make those from Tony Hawk seem cumbersome. Put this together with a
huge list of tricks and seemingly endless maps and Skate is literally
a never-ending game where the world is your skate park.
Developer Harmonix returns under a new
publisher with not only a new game, but one that comes with two extra
instruments and demands you use them. Rock Band really is just that,
giving players the ability to get three friends, online or off, and
play whatever song you like together. One singer, drummer, bass and
guitar player makes the band, and huge customization with looks and
personas means you'll almost never find someone looking the same.
Making sure the band has it's weekly get togethers is another story
entirely.
God of War II does everything God of War did,
but better. Not only did it have real, actual puzzles that caused you
to think, it had some of the greatest action sequences this side of
Sparta has seen. From the bloody animations to hit combos running to
the hundreds, nothing in God of War II lacks hardcore action sequences
that make you feel manly. At least while playing it.| Next > |
